THE CURE PUT FINISHING TOUCHES ON ALBUM, B-Sides Disc On Hold
from:www.allstarmag.com,www.rocktropolis.com
The Cure have resumed work on their follow-up to 1996's Wild MoodSwings as of last week, and are holed up in St. Catherine's Court, a former medieval monastery in Bath, England, to put the finishing touches on the album. St. Catherine's Court is the same studio the band used to record the last album. The as-yet-untitled album is scheduled for release in the spring of 1999. As for the planned B-sides album that has been in the works for awhile now, it's on hold.
Subject: Robert Geary on Cure's The perfect girl a happy song? Well, let's see... You're such strange girl I think you come from another world xenophobia, You're such a strange girl I really don't understand a word miscommunication, You're such a strange girl I'd like to shake you around and around infanticidal baby-shaking, You're such a strange girl I'd like to turn you all upside down spousal abuse,You're such a strange girl The way you look like you do PNID (post-narcotic irrecognition disorder),
You're such a strange girl I want to be with you I think I'm falling I think I'm falling in and stuttering. Gee, that's real uplifting.
Cure All I have to do is kill her: A variation of the song Forever. It was first recorded during the Faith era, but was
never on any authorized releases, except a live 1984 version of Forever which is on the Concert: The Cure Live/Curiosity: Cure Anomalies cassette tape. Forever and the AIHTDIKH variation are also available live on several bootlegs. Studio outtakes of
Forever are also available in bootleg format, but I don't know about the full version.
Robbie Geary & Current Babble 7/10/98. I suppose if RS got brain damaged by a flying brick and started banging on trashcan lids you people would still hail him as an innovative genius and rapture on Babble about his "new direction" and how it is still*
better than 99% of the other crap out there. Reading Babble these days is like watching Forrest Gump. You artsy teenagers with your relativistic notions need to realize that there comes a point when crap is just crap, and if crap is now a new musical genre, then pity on this world. The Scottish eat haggis, the
Chinese eat pig intestine, and Africans drink cow's blood, but I know of no race that serves shit as a delicacy, and if any of you were served a piece of shit on a skewer, I doubt that you would reply, "thank you for your kind gesture, but my tastes are not inclined toward shit at the moment," rather than fling it back in their faces. Well, when RS offers us his predigested lyrics and trys to pass them off as a new song, what is the difference? Robbie Geary
Interview with Chino Moreno, (Deftones): "like most metalheads, Moreno has a new waver inside trying to get out. "Without The Cure, There would probably have been no deftones", He says. "They were one of the main Reasons I started Singing." It's appropiate. then, that the singer describes a recent beer-and-bull session with the Cure's Robert Smith as "the coolest thing that ever happened to me"
July 98 of SELECT has an interview with the Smashing Pumpkins. THE ROOT MYTH OF THE SMASHING PUMPKINS: If you are a SP fan you will wear black, have a pale face, live in a drizzly marshland of sadness and pain, and never, ever laugh. -"True!" Billy Corgan yelps, jollily slamming his hands down on the arm rests of his chair."You can't reconstruct that! I'm just an old goth. It's my goth roots showing. And then," he muses, "you finally meet Robert Smith, and he's wearing tennis shoes and a blue shirt." -"He looked so cute!" D'arcy reminisces, tucking her legs underneath herself. "In his little tennis shoes... he was standing in the lobby of this hotel just..." D'arcy does a very life-like impression of Robert Smith standing awkwardly, like an infant 41-year-old man who should be slapped.
The Cure -Anonymous
Sometimes when I'm half-awake at night and bored senseless, dizzy with emptiness and strain, I turn on the CD player and think of Robert, about the scars and demons that lead him to sing such sad beautiful songs. Always he remains my image and as the player moves to the next track, I know he'll fall in love with someone else again tonight. And if he can still hold on to his faith after all these years, I can too. Sometimes the pain in his voice is all that can remind me I'm real. Other times Robert will seem to be happy, but I know it's just hysteria. His sorrow and hope are all he leaves me and even now, in this twilight, they remain enough to snap me loose from the chains of self-pity I tend to wrap myself in.
Robert opens his mouth and lays himself out to me, wounds gaping, agony obvious. The bitterness, unrequited longing, hate, despair and lastly hope. It always comes back to that a prayer for something better.
This secret dream of happiness is what I always sense in his darkest pleas and rants. It is why I can play the same CDs dozens of times and hear something new often enough to give me hope. Half-asleep, sick and bored, I listen to Robert and at least for a short while, he makes me feel like I am clean again.
December 22, in 1978, the Cure released/debuted their first single, "Killing An Arab".
Boys Don't Cry Extended 12" Dance Remix released around '86 with a new voice mix to promote Standing on a Beach. Remix on the b-side, sometimes called the New Voice, Club Mix.
A quick guide to what you are missing... Some essential things:
Curiosity (b-side to Concert on tape) only official version of Forever, Heroin Face (early Malice/Obelisk song I think) an interesting view. Standing/Staring b-side on tape contains most b-sides up to head on the Door. Including Splintered in Her head, Descent, Another journey By Train. Lost Wishes. Limited edition tape available only by mail order (now sold out) of instrumental demos of Wish era Songs. Very relaxing. The Glove: Blue Sunshine. Japanese version of WMS : 15 tracks, last track being It used to Be Me, orig b-side of The 13th. Hello I love You: cover of Doors song, from an Elektra compilation.
In the clip of Charlotte Sometimes, ('round 83) Robert was wearing a SOM badge on his coat... Silver logo on a black background... (Similar to the Reptile House, given to the members in 90).
CARNAGE VISORS: an animated film shown on the 'picture tour' in place of an opening band. Specially made by Simon Gallup's brother Ric. Recorded in one day at Point Studios. Rics first version of the film (which robert known as "a film-film with people ") was aborted when they realize that the light setting is wrong and the film turns out almost completely black Lol says
" the title, incidentally, is intended as an antonym for 'Rose-coloured spectacles'
Inspired how beautiful you are. -Baudelaire's Poem
"ah! you want to know why I hate you today. it will probably be less easy for you to understand than for me to explain it to you; you are, i think, the most perfect example of feminine impenetrability that can possibly be found. "we had spent a long day together, and it had seemed to me short. we had promised one another that we would think the same thoughts and that our two souls should become one soul; a dream which is not original, after all, except that, dreamed by all men, it has been realised by none. "in the evening you were a little tired, and you sat down outside a new cafe at the corner of a new boulevard, still littered with plaster and already displaying its unfinished splendours. the cafe glittered. (about 10 lines further detail the gaslights and the people around)...."a paradise for gluttons. "exactly opposite to us, in the roadway, stood a man of about forty years of age with a weary face and a greyish beard, holding a little boy by one hand and carrying on the other arm a little fellow too weak to walk. he was taking the nursemaid's place, and had brought his children out for a walk in the evening. all were in rags. the three faces were extrordinarily serious, and the 6 eyes stared fixedly at the new cafe with an equal admiration, differentiated in each according to age. "the father's eyes said: "how beautiful it is! how beautiful it is! one would think that all the gold of the poor world had found its way to these walls" the boy's eyes said: how beautiful it is! how beautiful it is! but that is a house which only people who are not like us can enter". as for the little one's eyes, they were too fascinated to express anything but stupid and utter joy. "song-writers say that pleasure ennobles the soul and softens the heart. the song was right that evening, so far as i was concerned. not only was i touched by this family of eyes, but i felt rather ashamed of our glasses and decanters so much too much for our thirst. i turned to look at you, dear love, that i might read my own thought in you; i gazed deep into your eyes, so beautiful and so strangely sweet, your green eyes that are the home of caprice and under the sovreignty of the Moon; and you said to me: "those people are insupportable to me with their staring
saucer-eyes! couldn't you tell the head waiter to send them away? "so hard it is to understand one another, dearest, and so incommunicable is thought, even between people who are in love!"

Catch
YEAH I KNOW WHO YOU REMIND ME OF.
A GIRL I THINK I USED TO KNOW.
YEAH. I SEE HER WHEN THE DAYS GOT COLDER.
ON THOSE DAYS WHEN IT FELT LIKE SNOW.
YOU KNOW I EVEN THINK THAT SHE STANDS LIKE YOU.
SHE USED TO JUST STAND THERE AND STAY.
AND ROLL HER EYES RIGHT UP TO HEAVEN.
AND MAKE LIKE I JUST WASN'T THERE.
AND SHE USED TO FALL DOWN A LOT.
THAT GIRL WAS ALWAYS FALLING AGAIN AND AGAIN.
AND I USED TO SOMETIMES TRY TO CATCH HER.
BUT NEVER EVEN CAUGHT HER NAME.
AND SOMETIMES WE'D SPEND THE NIGHT.
JUST ROLLING ABOUT ON THE FLOOR.
JUST ROLLING ABOUT.
AND I REMEMBER EVEN LOWERY FELT SOFT AT THE TIME.
I ALWAYS USED TO WAKE UP SORE.
YOU KNOW I EVEN THINK THAT SHE SMILES LIKE YOU.
SHE USED TO JUST STAND THERE AND SMILE.
AND HER EYES WILL GO ALL SORTS OF FAR AWAY.
STAYING LIKE THAT FOR QUITE A WHILE.
AND I REMEMBER SHE USED TO FALL DOWN A LOT.
THAT GIRL WAS ALWAYS FALLING AGAIN AND AGAIN.
AND I USED TO SOMETIMES TRY TO CATCH HERE
BUT NEVER EVEN CAUGHT HER NAME.
YES I SOMETIMES EVEN TRIED TO CATCH HER.
BUT NEVER EVEN CAUGHT HER NAME...
Burn
The Cure
"Don't look, don't look", the shadows breathe,
Whispering me away from you,
"Don't wake at night to watch her sleep,
You know that you will always lose."
This trembling adored, tousled and bird-mad girl
Everynight I burn,
Everynight I call your name,
Everynight I burn,
Everynight I fall again.
"Don't talk of love", the shadows purr,
Murmuring me away from you,
"Don't talk of worlds that never were:
The end is always ever true
There's nothing you can ever say;
There's nothing you can ever do."
Still, everynight I burn,
Everynight I scream your name,
Everynight I burn,
Evernight the dream's the same.
Everynight I burn,
Waiting for my only friend,
Everynight I burn,
Waiting for the world to end.
"Just paint your face", the shadows smile,
Slipping me away from you,
"It doesn't matter how you hide,
We'll find you if we're wanting to.
So slide back down and close your eyes,
Sleep awhile you must be tired."
Everynight I burn,
Everynight I call your name,
Everynight I burn,
Everynight I fall again.
Everynight I burn,
And scream the animal scream,
Everynight I burn,
And dream the crow-black dream,
Everynight I burn,
And scream the animal scream,
Everynight I burn,
And dream the crow-black dream
Doing The Unstuck
The Cure
It's a perfect day for letting go
For setting fire to bridges
Boats
And other dreary worlds you know
Let's get happy!
It's a perfect day for making out
To wake up with a smile
Without a doubt
To burst grin giggle bliss skip jump sing and shout
Let's get happy!
"But it's much too late" you say
"For doing this now
We should have done it then"
Well it just goes to show
How wrong you can be
And how you really should know
That it's never too late
To get up and go...
It's a perfect day for kiss and swell
For rip-zipping button-popping kiss and well...
There's loads of other stuff can make you yell
Let's get happy!
It's a perfect day for doing the unstuck
For dancing like you can't hear the beat
And you don't give a further thought
To things like feet
Let's get happy!
"But it's much too late" you say
"For doing this now
We should have done it then"
Well it just goes to show
How wrong you can be
And how you really should know
That it's never too late
To get up and go...
Kick out the gloom
Kick out the blues
Tear out the pages with all the bad news
Pull down the mirrors and pull down the walls
Tear up the stairs and tear up the floors
Oh just burn down the house!
Burn down the street!
Turn everything red and the beat is complete
With the sound of your world
Going up in the fire
It's a perfect day to throw back your head
And kiss it all goodbye!
It's a perfect day for getting wild
Forgetting all your worries
Life
And everything that makes you cry
Let's get happy!
It's a perfect day for dreams come true
For thinking big
And doing anything you want to do
Let's get happy!
"But it's much too late" you say
"For doing this now
We should have done it then"
Well it just goes to show
How wrong you can be
And how you really should know
That it's never too late
To get up and go...
Kick out the gloom
Kick out the blues
Tear out the pages with all the bad news
Pull down the mirrors and pull down the walls
Tear up the stairs and tear up the floors
Oh just burn down the house!
Burn down the street!
Turn everything red and the dream is complete
With the sound of your world
Going up in the fire
It's a perfect day to throw back your head
And kiss it all goodbye!
Too Late
The Cure
So I'll wait for you
Where I always wait
Behind the signs that sell the news
I'll watch for you like yesterday
And hope for you
One day that once
Spent out on me
And up 'til late
I search for you
Your hat pushed straight
Away from me
Your measured step
Heads up you win
Always too late
If I could just once catch your eye
Invisible against the words
That hold you down in solitude
And never let you go
The way that every time
My eyes just close
Like lids of wooden men in file
I put you under rainy day
Your hat's all off
And I'm gone away
Charlotte Sometimes
The Cure
All the faces
All the voices blur
Change to one face
Change to one voice
Prepare yourself for bed
The light seems bright
And glares on white walls
All the sounds of charlotte sometimes
Into the night
With charlotte sometimes
Night after night she lay alone in bed
Her eyes so open to the dark
The streets all looked so strange
They seemed so far away
But charlotte sometimes did not cry
The people seemed so close
Playing expressionless games
The people seemed so close
So close
So many
Other names
Sometimes i'm dreaming
Where all the other people dance
Sometimes i'm dreaming
Charlotte sometimes
Sometimes i'm dreaming
Expressionless the trance
Sometimes i'm dreaming
So many different names
Sometimes i'm dreaming
The sounds all stay the same
Sometimes i'm dreaming
She hopes to open shadowed eyes
On a different world
Come to me
Scared princess
Charlotte sometimes
On that bleak track
(See the sun is gone again)
The tears were pouring down her face
She was crying and crying for a girl
Who died so many years before...
Sometimes i dream
Where all the people dance
Sometimes i dream
Charlotte sometimes
Sometimes i dream
The sounds all stay the same
Sometimes i'm dreaming
There are so many different names
Sometimes i dream
Sometimes i dream...
Charlotte sometimes crying for herself
Charlotte sometimes dreams a wall around herself
But it's always with love
With so much love it looks like
Everything else
Of charlotte sometimes
So far away
Glass sealed and pretty
Charlotte sometimes

The Cure
If only you'd never speak to me
The way that you do
If only you'd never speak like that
It's like listening to
A breaking heart
A falling sky
Fire go out and friendship die
I wish you felt the way that i still do
If only you'd never look at me
The way that you do
If only you'd never look like that
When i look at you
I see face like stone
Eyes of ice
Mouth so sweetly telling lies
I wish you felt the way that i still do
The way that i still do
But you don't
You don't feel anymore
You don't care anymore
It's all gone
If only you'd never pull from me
The way that you do
If only you'd never pull like that
When i'm with you
I feel hopeless hands helplessly
Pulling you back close to me
I wish you felt the way that i still do
The way that i still do
If only you'd ever speak to me
The way you once did
Look at me the way you once did
Pull to me the way you once did
But you don't
You don't feel anymore
You don't care anymore
It's all gone
It's all gone
Six Different Ways
The Cure
This is stranger than I thought
Six different ways inside my heart
And everyone I'll keep tonight
Six different ways go deep inside
I'll tell them anything at all
I know I'll give them more and more
I'll tell them anything at all
I know I'll give the world and more
The think I'm on my hands and head
This time they're much too slow
Six sides to every lie I say
It's that American voice again
It was never quite like this before
Not one of you is the same
This is stranger than I thought
Six different ways inside my heart
And everyone I'll keep tonight
Six different ways go deep inside
Push
The Cure
Go go go
Push him away
No no no
Don't let him stay
He gets inside to stare at her
The seeping mouth
The mouth that knows
The secret you
Always you
A smile to hide the fear away
Oh smear this man across the walls
Like strawberries and cream
Its the only way to be
Exactly the same clean room
Exactly the same clean bed
But I've stayed away too long this time
And I've got too big to fit this time...
